About the Author

Roger O'Keefe is Professor of Public International Law at University College London and a Visiting Professor at Central European University. Previously he was a Senior Lecturer in Law and the Deputy Director of the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Magdalene College, Cambridge. In 2004 he was awarded the Journal of International Criminal Justice Prize for his article 'Universal Jurisdiction: Clarifying the Basic Concept', and in 2009 he was a member and the co-rapporteur of the African Union-European Union Technical Ad hoc Expert Group on the Principle of Universal Jurisdiction.

About the Author
Tom Petruzzellis is an electronics engineer with 30 years’ experience currently working with the geophysical field equipment department at the State University of New York—Binghamton. He is also an instructor at Binghamton. He has written extensively for industry publications, including Electronics Now, Modern Electronics, QST, Microcomputer Journal, and Nuts & Volts, and is the author of four earlier books: Build Your Own Electronics Workshop; STAMP 2 Communications and Control Projects; Optoelectronics, Fiber Optics, and Laser Cookbook; and Alarm, Sensor, and Security Circuit Cookbook, all from McGraw-Hill. Good hobbyist book on sensors

I own several books by the author, and like his other books, this one is focused on construction details and how each particular circuit works, along with datasheets, as opposed to theory. So if you are looking for the theory of operation on individual sensors, I think you will be disappointed. However, if you are just looking for interesting projects to build, this book is full of good ideas for circuits. The projects range from the more simple and inexpensive, such as the overtemperature alarm, to the more complex and costly advanced electronic ion chamber. If you want a good book on sensors and the theory behind them you might try Fraden's recent edition of "Handbook of Modern Sensors". I notice that Amazon does not show the table of contents so I do that here:

And I thought Electronic Projects Were Dead

Back many, many years ago, when the earth was flat and the sun went around the earth, I built a whole series of crystal radios. It seemed to me that something was lost when everything electronic became a chip and nearly everything you could imagine was made in Japan.

Now all of a sudden comes along this book. No, alas, there's not a crystal radio in it, but there's a short wave radio that's made with three chips. The complexity of the circuits is about the same as the old crystal sets. And the thrill of listening to WWV tell you the time as to be about the same as listening to the local radio station on the crystal set the first time.

There are quite a number of projects suitable for science fairs and the like. Come to think of it, building one of those electronic compasses from page 178 might be a good project even for an old kid of my advanced age.

Nice collection of sensor projects

Interesting collection of projects that require more than a simple trip to the Radio Shack to build. Each project has considerable scientific background information not just an electrical schematic and parts list. Many of the projects would make worthwhile science fair projects or other amateur science pursuits.

This book was just what I needed. After having some duds lately I needed this book in the WORST way! And it is currently a freebie on Amazon! AND IT WILL BE THE BEST FREEBIE YOU GET! I loved this author! Ms. Devereux can write, lemme tell ya! Her writing is so descriptive, I truly felt it. I'm talking in the freakin' room, felt it. WARNING... It ends in a cliffhanger & yes I already bought book 2 & 3! Book 2 & 3 are live, & Book #4 will be released next month. So the premise is that our heroine Sophie is a journalist & our hero Marc is related to the Marquis de Sade the famous sadist. Sophie travels to France to meet the relatives of Sade & interview them as well as research Sade's writings & photograph the famous places in France relative to Sade.

This Book. GAH. I loved it, I hated it. It was the absolute hottest thing I've read this month! I was hooked in the prologue on page 2! O.M.G. this man, Marc. At first he was so dreamy, then sexy as all get out. Then at the end I wanted to wring his beautiful neck! The more dominate he got, the more he pissed me off. Sometimes in a good way, sometimes not so much. This chick Sophie did get on my nerves a little though. She was "RULED" by her body. Ok I know the dude is the bomb, but really?? She is the only reason it's not a 5*. OK, but in all fairness with a man like Marc, I might be "ruled" by my body too.

Descendent is the story of the sexual awakening of a young woman during a business trip to France. As a journalist, Sophie Quinn is writing a story about the Life of Marquis De Sade, a French aristocrat notorious for sexual cruelty acts in his writings as well as his life.
She meets Marc Brayden, a direct descendent of the famous sadist, and quickly becomes caught up and enthralled in his world of kink. Her sexual awakening is like walking through the pages of a how to manual on The Introduction to BDSM.
Sophie is done with men. Done with dating. 1 time bitten 100 times shy. So, no one is more surprised than she when she does the unthinkable and just go with it – a sexual relationship with the gorgeous Marc Brayden.

Where it falls short: it gets too serious and mysterious around the life of Marc. His fear comes from his desire to hurt people; another mystery he introduces. I did expect more and a better explanation. With a cliffhanger ending, perhaps we will understand the mystery in the next book.

It has all the familiar ingredients of erotica with BDSM and its assembled with great skill. The story is inventive based around the infamous Marquis De Sade. Its complete with great sex and dirty talk. If you are looking for a vivid picture of hot romance with steamy sex and bouts of public display of sexual tension - you will not be disappointed. It also paints a beautiful picture of touring Paris.

Descended is the story of Sophie, reporter, who is determined to make a name for herself by interviewing the family of the descendants of Marqis de Sade - which is, quite honestly, one of the best premises for an erotic series if I've ever heard one.

On the personal side of Sophie - she wonders if she is an asexual personality type. She has never had an orgasm with a man with whom she has been intimately involved. Further, she is dealing with a break up from a man she was with for several years. Imagine her surprise when she finds herself drawn to Marc Brayden - who himself has secrets.

Marc is also drawn to Sophie, but fights it. He is not exactly on board with the interview initially, and is fighting demons of his own as to his dominant desires. Especially when they seem to come alive with Sophie.

I am a huge fan of the D/s; BDSM romance novels, and this one was no disappointment. I loved the story line. I loved the characters. Sophie was very easy to identify with as a reader. And Marc is simply fascinating, and I also felt as drawn to him and his dominant personality as Sophie.

The writing is great, the story is great, the interaction as well as the disharmony that develops is thought-provoking. I look forward to seeing what happens next in this series.

Knowledge of the soul in a world that works against happiness on the surface

His words cross all boundaries of belief. But believe you must, and what is to this we are to read and believe? Knowledge of the soul in a world that works against happiness on the surface, but if we approach with the same humility and eagerness, even at his advanced age, if we challenge our selves to learn love, to be earnest in the presence of happiness, then why hold back? Why confine it to a specific religion? You can be enlightened and still have your Old and New Testament. Ignorance is the turning away from where our souls come to life. Don't be ignorant. Learn. We are never too old and certainly never too young to fill our hearts and minds with a will to believe in the art of happiness, not the evil art of war.

An exhaustive, monumental reference work of 678 pages.

Written completely in Spanish. Jos� Mart�nez de Sousa is a Spanish linguist of the highest rank. He covers every conceivable aspect of Spanish orthography (spelling) in a detailed and technical way. And he makes no apologies for either his copious details or his technical terminology. (The writing for me is very understandable because I am a fellow linguist). This book is not for the faint-hearted or the light of wallet-it costs $80.00. If you would like to learn ALL the rules for Spanish spelling in one source, this is it-you will need no other. I loved the many examples that he inserts. Sr. Mart�nez de Sousa cites not only the Royal Spanish Academy but also distinguished Spanish writers across the centuries. He sometimes does not agree with the ideas of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) and explains fully why (he explains everything fully). I love this book and do not regret the $80.00 that I paid for it.

Good book

I developed an obsession with growing peppers over the last year and I have found this book to be very informative on this subject. This book is written for scientists but I believe anyone should be able to follow it pretty closely.

Dr. Bosland is the expert and this book is very helpful. Not just a bunch of research but practical information on peppers...in depth. Good illustrations and photos. It will help make any pepper grower better. (Explains the difference between chili and chile!)

Maureen Furniss is a member of the Animation Faculty at CalArts in Los Angeles, where she teaches character animation and experimental animation. She is the founding editor of Animation Journal and author of Art in Motion: Animation Aesthetics (1998) and Chuck Jones: Conversations (2005). She is a founding member of the Society for Animation Studies and Women in Animation. She lives in Santa Clarita, California.

A hefty and well-written overview of the art form. Complements how-to character animation books (eg The Animator's Survival Kit) by covering a more eclectic range of materials and techniques-- how to make a wire armature, for example, or how to scratch animation directly into film stock. Makes one want to experiment. Full of illustrations, artist's profiles, and history, this is a serious resource for a diverse art.
