I've been a Latin King for about 14 years now and I got to keep it official by saying that King Macho gotta be a real King, Too much realistic drama for him not to be a real King. Meaning Brandon Cory who ever you are, you are real, I know you are. About time someone blew it up. 5 Stars or better yet you get all 5 points. For your first novel, I give you mad RESPECT, and to be HONEST I am keeping this book for ever. For some reason i feel the UNITY between the character King Macho and I. I have enough KNOWLEDGE to know whats right from wrong. i LOVE it. Sunset Park Latin King, had me at chapter 1.!!!!!

The mental abuse and the physical abuse that many children go through today will destroy their future for the simple fact that parents nowadays ignore the signs. An excellent hard, good swords and sorcery series.

The Forgotten Swords was an intense read. He broke each story or book at a correct timekeeping the reader wanting more. The entire master plan was carried very well in the book. There were times I couldn't put my Kindle down with this series.

It's a good swords and sorcery series and I'm looking forward to his next series. The four stars was for some minor typos and I think he got confused with two characters during the story but I would give him a four and a half stars.

Toward a More English English

The topic of this book is the distinction between words that are truly English, in the sense that they come from Old English or at least from Germanic languages, and words borrowed or derived from other languages, especially Latin and Greek. The book is intended mainly as a reference for people who would like to increase the proportion of true English in their writing and/or speech; secondarily it will be of interest to those who are interested in the history of our language and where our modern vocabulary comes from. The text per se is only some 30 pages; the bulk of the volume consists of two word lists. The first is a list of true English words, with definitions and alternatives. The second is a list of commonly used words derived from Latin and other foreign languages, with true English equivalents provided. The text itself is written in the style the author promotes -- i.e., using predominantly true English. There are occasional awkwardnesses, but for the most part it is a good example of writing with a minimum of erudite borrowings. What I wish the author had included is more etymology: for the true English words, the Old English or cognate other Germanic word from which it comes; for the "Anglo-Latin" words, at least a hint as to the original Latin or whatever.

This book sets side by side words that are truly English, meaning that they come from Old English or at least from Germanic tongues, and words borrowed or put together from other tongues, above all Latin and Greek. The book is meant mainly as a tool for those who would like to bring more true English into their writing and/or speech; it will also be helpful to those who are keen on the tale of our speech and where our latter-day words come from. The tale of how English has come to be as it is, and thoughts as to which words are best for what we want to say, takes only some 30 pages; the bulk of the book is made of two word lists. The first is a list of true English words, with meanings and other word choices with like meanings. The other is a list of everyday words that have been made from Latin and other tongues, with true English words of like meanings given. The book itself is written in the way the writer wants to foster -- that is, in the main with true English words. There are a few unwieldy bits, but for the most it is a good way of making one see how to write with few overly learned borrowings. What I wish the writer had given is more about the forerunners of the words: for the true English words, the Old English or other Germanic word from which it comes; for the "Anglo-Latin" words, at least a hint as to the Latin or whatever forerunner.

Excess of Words, not very helpful

I'm not so sure this book will be a great help, especially after I saw the entry "tsunami - ground swell, sea-wave" under Anglo-Latin to English use of words. The first 40 pages are a rehash of the evolution of the English language. This is of doubtful use. Another random selection: silvery: silver-hued, silver-toned; ready-made: ready-to-wear, off-the-rack. Do you really gain anything from these examples or are they a lie: less than the truth, untruth, downright lie, shameless lie, white lie, unsooth"? I don't think this will be a useful [handy, good for, helpful, of help, in play, ready, up and doing, working] volume. Any good thesaurus would be more useful.

Thrown together but not explained well.

I was so excited when I found this book in the Sunnyvale public library. It covered a lot of subjects which would be interesting to any one in the field. But I was very dissappointed when I took the book home and tried to read it. The writer has just thrown things together without carefully explaining or organizing them. This book in no way qualifies as a text book or as any book you can learn from, unless you already know the subject quite well. Shame!

Not worth the money

This book has a lot of technical information. But it has not been compiled properly. It is hard to understand if you are new to some of the concepts. Plus the book costs a lot. It cost $83.00 in 1995. You could learn as much from Tektronix and HP application notes that are available on the web or theough a 800 number.

Generally Difficult to Read.

I was generally disappointed and frustrated with this book. It uses a lot of specialized terms without defining them first, and has some really odd, flowery language that is difficult to follow. Here's a sentence from page 12 I had to reread multiple times.

"A measurement with fixed accuracy can be performed only, if to a measurable property of the object, it is possible to associate with no less accuracy a determinate parameter of its model."

I'm still not sure what that says exactly, and had to assume "determinate" meant "unchanging". There are enough undefined specialized terms the author just slips in, that I wasn't sure if "determinate parameter" had a special meaning or not. Stuff like this is scattered all throughout the book. In general, it seems like most of the concepts in the book are quite simple, but they are explained in such a way (poorly) that they become very confusing. I'm sure if you're a metrology specialist, this stuff probably makes perfect sense. The amount of time and effort it takes just to interpret the language is a real barrier to comprehension. What I got out of this book, in my opinion, wasn't worth the effort required to read it.
