Zachary Shore is Associate Professor of History at the Naval Postgraduate School and Senior Fellow at the Institute of European Studies, University of California, Berkeley. Gets to the essential issues in a hurry

This is excellent. It really cuts to the essential issues in a hurry. The section on dissecting a text in 15 minutes will be an invaluable time-saver, as well as a more effective comprehension tool. It makes a nice complement to the section on writing, showing that writing *for* scholars and reading *by* scholars are flip-sides of the same coin. I loved the friendly tone of the book; it made grad school seem so much less forbidding!

This book will help refresh the critical reading, writing and research skills needed for social science-oriented graduate school

This book is used in a practitioner oriented graduate degree program. It receives overwhelmingly positive reviews from students - most of whom are intelligent and successful mid and senior level civilians who have been out of school for five to ten years. It's not the only book one will need to succeed in graduate school, but it is an excellent refresher for people whose critical reading, critical writing and research skills are rusty.
