Good suggestions with little cited research to back them up

This is a decent enough short look at increasing general student motivation. If you are looking for some quick strategies to move your kids forward, this book will be helpful. However, the book seems to be the collected opinions of the authors and lacks any real research to back it up. For example, "Because their learning goals are personal, truly engaged students will seek out ways to make the work relevant." That's a nice conjecture but is there anything to prove that this is what happens? Maybe, maybe not. However, the authors make little effort to give you the underpinnings of their perspective, a failing which ultimately leads to more questions than answers.

This is a good book for both experienced and new teachers, along with instructional coaches and administrators! Take the time, it's a quick read, you will not be disappointed.
