An indispensable guide to learning film production

I originally was attracted to this book as a tool for my wife, a budding film producer.
This is the perfect beginners book on how-to film-making and production. Hoover’s writing style is smooth, and easy to read. I really feel like my eyes were opened up after reading this book. (Still haven’t loaned it to my wife yet)
If you have a concept, but don't know where to start, this book will lay down a breadcrumb on the first step and keep dropping them all the way through a very interesting and complex forest.
I consider myself an intermediate filmmaker, so I was really looking for some more advanced concepts on scripting, pre-production, casting, dealing with actors, camera shots, the dreaded post-production, and everything else in between. That’s why I’m going to hold back a star.
Definitely a must have for anyone trying to learn the basics on Film-making and Production.

The most definitive and well written book on the subject of film production that I've found

Due to the tax breaks in my state and the current onslaught of movies being produced locally because of it, I’ve been considering the production of a long held movie idea myself. Having the script readily available I needed to know the details and protocol necessary for making a movie. A close acquaintance of mine referred me to this book and I purchased it shortly after. From the preliminary introduction I appreciated the no-nonsense and succinct writing style and the authoritative approach to the subject. I discovered swiftly that this was the exact material I was looking for.
Initially I was overwhelmed with what was necessary for proper production but the author segmented his material and distilled it down in a digestible manner that made comprehension much easier. From office space and finances to procuring the proper director and scheduling shoots, there is nothing left out of this guide. I’ve been thoroughly impressed by how insightful and definitive the material actually is. I can go so far as to say that without this material I would still be a neophyte without any real clue as to how to pull off such a broad and complicated thing as making a movie. Now, with the proper knowledge at my disposal, I have the means I need for actually doing it.
In summation, if you’re a producer with enough moxie to produce your own movie, this book is a definite must. After reading the material I’ve decided to commit to my production as a much wiser individual. I realize the depth of what is necessary and the harrowing nature of the subject if I don’t commit in an appropriate manner. Due to this book and the information it provides though, I still find the endeavor well worthwhile.

Film Production, Theory and Practice is an informative read that lays down the basics in an easy to read, understandable format. This book is designed for use by both the professional and amateur filmmaker. In fact, I have used this book as a reference source in planning several of my film projects.
